About our Doctors
Dr. Alexandra Bedford
Dr. Bedford graduated in 2002 from the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, in Canada. Having practiced ambulatory equine medicine for years, in addition to small animal medicine and surgery, she is happy to see any of your miniature horse companions. Her interests include dermatology, endocrinology, veterinary dentistry, oral surgery, geriatrics and internal medicine.
Dr. Deborah Scarborough
Dr. Scarborough earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1996, at North Carolina State University. She has a special interest in exotic species and began her professional career studying the behavioral ecology of desert amphibians and reptiles at the University of California at Riverside.
Later she owned and operated Azalea Coast Animal Care, a small animal, exotic and avian veterinary clinic in North Carolina for eight years. She relocated to Virginia Beach in 2009 and we were fortunate to have her join Providence Square Veterinary Clinic and Referral Services. She brings extensive experience in avian and exotic medicine, as well as small animal medicine and surgery. Her mild-mannered approach to veterinary medicine brings comfort to her patients as well as their owners.
Dr. Scarborough lives in Virginia Beach with her husband, David. They share their home with a cat named Katie, Sammy a yellow-collared macaw, a guinea pig named Elmo and her rescued Bichon, Pritsy, who enjoys coming to work with her each morning.
Dr. Rachel Gunther
Dr. Gunther received her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University with a major in Animal and Nutritional Sciences. She volunteered her free time training service dogs, teaching Taekwondo, and gaining experience in emergency and wildlife medicine. She graduated with her DVM from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018 and promptly joined the team at Providence Square Veterinary Clinic that June. She enjoys working with both traditional and non-traditional species, and has a growing passion for behavioral medicine and surgery. Dr. Gunther shares her home with her Hog Island Boa, Lennox, as well as a multitude of tropical fish, each with his/her own name and personality!
